‍A full carbon, top-loading pedicle screw system, CarboClear implants are manufactured from continuous carbon fibre reinforced PEEK (CFR-PEEK), combining the mechanical strength of continuous carbon fibres with the properties of the PEEK polymer matrix.

The carbon fibres are strategically layered in both unidirectional longitudinal and helical/diagonal orientations, providing strength in multiple planes and excellent resistance to fatigue, bending and rotational forces. Unlike moulding processes where carbon fibre reinforced PEEK is pushed or injected into a mould, disrupting the continuity and orientation of the fibres, CarboClear’s unique manufacturing process retains continuous longitudinal fibres throughout the implant. This preserves the structural contribution of the carbon fibres where it matters most.

These characteristics are particularly important in spinal oncology, where bone quality and healing may be compromised by disease, resection and adjuvant treatment, placing greater and more prolonged mechanical demands on the construct.

Alongside its mechanical properties, CFR-PEEK provides significantly improved radiolucency compared with traditional metallic implants, supporting clearer post-operative imaging, ongoing disease surveillance and radiotherapy planning.
